Drumming with The Stars

Drum Instructor Ralph Humphrey returned for a 3rd season of drumming duties for the ABC hit show Dancing with the Stars. Airing on tuesday and wednesday nights, both shows were broadcast live to New York. To prepare for the show, the dancers rehearsed with the band to establish a desired tempo, did one dress rehearsal, and then came back after a break to perform the live show. Asked about his experience on the show, Ralph had this to say: "The band is comprised of the best musicians in town. It's a pleasure to be working with such great musicians, arrangers, and conductor. The production people are also top-notch and very easy to work with. In the three seasons we have done, there have been no major train wrecks. It shows how good the team is. I see the gig as the perfect reason why I do what I do. The music includes a variety of styles arranged for big band, and it has all the challenges a drummer could ask for [including no click or headphones]. And, the pay isn't bad either."
