The LA Music Academy was recently alerted to some official and arguably overdue confirmation of the school's status in the educational community when it received word that it had been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The school received its official certificate of accreditation, signed by the NASM President presiding at the time, David Tomatz, on November 21, 2003.

NASM bases their decision to provide accreditation on reviews that focus on educational quality, institutional integrity, and educational improvements. A commission reviews findings from the school's own self-study, the achievement of educational standards, and an on-site review. Founded in 1924, NASM includes approximately 600 schools of music, primarily at the collegiate level, but also includes pre-collegiate and community schools of music and is the national accrediting agency for music and music-related disciplines.

Regarding the decision, LA Music Academy President and Executive Director Thomas Aylesbury said, "We were thrilled…ecstatic when we heard of the decision. We've worked hard to receive this and it's a great reward for the staff and the teachers." Aylesbury has been the school's Executive Director since the LA Music Academy's inception in 1996, and was elected the school's President in January, 2003. Mike Shapiro, the LA Music Academy's longtime Director of Education, was elected Vice President at that time as well. That team, along with "the great efforts of all of the department heads, their curricula and all of the teaching and non-teaching staff helped make this possible," concludes Aylesbury.
