An Intimate Evening with Al Jarreau By Kevyn LettauAl Jarreau came to the LA Music Academy this month to grace the students with two hours of his words of wisdom and his amazing vocals! He spoke about life and how it relates to music. He shared personal stories of his childhood and brought the room to roaring laughter and at times to reflective tears. Al is 65 years old now and transcends his years when he hits the stage with a passion and an unmatched talent for touching the hearts of everyone in his audience. He tours the world at least six months of the year never giving his fans less than his all! I think everyone walked away from the clinic with a deeper passion for what they are here to do and with the vision of what is possible when your heart is open and your chops are ready to go! He also told the students that he didn't land his first record deal until he was 35. This is almost incomprehensible for most of our students. I know when I was 20 years old, 35 seemed so old! But that's how long it took him and he just kept on honing his craft in small clubs in LA until he final got his opportunity to blow down the doors on an International scale. When asked how he has maintained his career over the span of three decades, he said that his love of different styles of music allowed him to crossover into different markets, thereby increasing his fan base. He also talked about prayer and the power off positive thinking. This was very profound for the students to hear and to have the proof of the results of prayer and optimism smiling at them from the stage! This was an LA Music Academy event that will not soon be forgotten and the great news is that Al will be back again! He so loved his time with our students that he has promised to make this an annual event! |
